The statistics below are from U.S. Census Bureau data files, including the most recent 2010 Census. These datasets will generally contain statistics for the 10-county Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) region, City of Atlanta, 28-county Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and Georgia, depending on availability. Users may be able to obtain similar data and related analyses for jurisdictions located geographically outside of the 10-county ARC region by contacting the appropriate Georgia Regional Councils.

While the American Community Survey (ACS) produces annual social, demographic, and economic estimates, the official counts of population and housing units and their basic characteristics are obtained from the 2010 Census.

The Census Bureau continues to roll out data on a flow basis and recently released 5-Year ACS 2006-2010 data products on December 8, 2011. The Census Bureau deems the ACS 5-year estimates most reliable when compared to other ACS estimates. Yet, depending on size of the geographic unit being analyzed and survey sample size, users may prefer ACS 1-year estimates over 3- or 5- year estimates and vice versus.
