Did You Know?  Quick facts about racial, ethnic and international communities in the Atlanta region

 

  • Within the core 10-county Atlanta region, an estimated 73 percent of all population growth between 2000 and 2005 came from non-whites.
  • From 2000-2004, metro Atlanta, along with fast-growing Las Vegas, is the only metro area in the country to be in the top 10 in percentage growth for each of the three ethnic groups - Hispanics/Latinos, African-Americans and Asians.
  • The number of minority-owned businesses in metro Atlanta jumped more than 72 percent from 1997 to 2002.
  • The 10-county Atlanta region's pre K-12 public school enrollment increased by 175,000 students, a 35 percent increase, between 1995 and 2005.  Despite this increase, the region's white enrollment decreased by 25,000 students over the same time.
