Message from Chairman

When the Global Atlanta Works initiative launched, its development was based on the idea that targeted community engagement across sectors and disciplines and involving leaders from diverse communities would afford new insights about identifying issues and developing solutions for a growing racial and ethnic population in the Atlanta region.  Although there are some noteworthy accomplishments, there is also growing interest to move this program beyond process and show progress toward the program’s goals and potential.

At its meeting in October, members of the Global Atlanta Works Advisory Committee began crafting a comprehensive plan to help Global Atlanta Works become more prominent and impactful.  In 2008, the Advisory Committee will present a new Strategy and Action Plan for approval and implementation by the ARC board.  The Plan not only outlines the new way Global Atlanta Works will work as an integral part of the overall strategy for the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), it will also outline this program’s role in developing the region’s prosperity.

Global Atlanta Works embodies the most important ideals of interagency coordination, collaborative partnerships and public involvement.  With support from internal and external stakeholders, the Plan will effectively engage diverse populations for the economic benefit of all.  Your input will be solicited as we move forward.

Additionally, below are just a few examples of highlights you can expect to read about in future issues of this newsletter:

  • A diversity-focused conference providing innovations, success stories, and lessons learned
  • A snapshot of current demographic, economic and cultural changes within the African American community in the metro Atlanta region
  • A White Paper addressing diversity and inclusion in planning

On behalf of Advisory Committee members and staff of the ARC Global Atlanta Works program, I extend to you our best wishes for a prosperous new year.

Aaron Turpeau, Chairman
