Conversations with African American Leaders in the Atlanta Region

Seven varied African Americans provide perspectives on leadership, past, current and future, as part of the Global Atlanta Work Leadership video series. View the first two perspectives provided by Aaron Turpeau, ARC Board member and chairman of the Global Atlanta Works Advisory Committee and Michael Russell, President and CEO, H.J. Russeell Construction Company. Mr. Turpeau describes the role of African Americans in the political process over the past 30 years from the vantage point of experiences working closely with former Atlanta Mayors Maynard Jackson, Andrew Young and current mayor Shirley Franklin. Mr. Russell discusses leadership challenges and opportunities.  Michael Russell was promoted to chief executive officer of H.J. Russell & Company in October 2003, succeeding his father Herman Russell, who founded the company in 1952 and led it for 50 years. Future issues will include conversations with Robert Brown, President and CEO, R.L. Brown & Associates, Leonardo McClarty, President, DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, Gwen Keyes Fleming, DeKalb County District Attorney, Stacey Abrams, Georgia State Representative and CEO, sageworks.IIc, and Lonnie Kin,g CEO, Onyx Development Company.
